
It could just be edited so the volume is not higher than the other characters of the book but keep the same gruffness and tone of Gus’s voice.

I rarely take the time to write a review but hope this would be helpful to someone else or to the creators of this audible version of lonesome dove. I doubt that the people that created this set down and listened to all 33 hours. I understand that they were trying to create this character that did speak louder and was hard of hearing but when listening to an audible book they need to be more aware of there listening audience. I only made it through this book by keeping my finger on the control volume so I could turn it down when Gus spoke which was often. However, I would not recommend this audio version because the voice of Gus McCray was decimals higher than the other voices in the audible version and extremely irritating to listen to.
